VAUGHN DORRIAN
Welcome to The Red Thread, a needlepoint atelier in Locust Valley, NY carrying a carefully curated selection of canvases and accoutrements. This is not your Grandmothers needlepoint!
My name is Vaughn Dorrian. I’m a wife and mother to three teenagers. Let there be no doubt, I am no expert stitcher. I really picked up stitching in January of 2022. I didn’t even get on the COVID bandwagon. But once I got started I couldn’t stop. I love the mental yoga of stitching. And I love stitching things for others. It’s a win-win for everyone.
I saw a gap in the market for a needlepoint destination on Long Island and I knew my small-town was the perfect place. Locust Valley is home to classic Americana. Think the Great Gatsby. It was set right here, on Long Island’s North Shore. Locust Valley has it all from boating, sailing, golf, a vibrant equestrian community, and an amazing community of “mom & pop” stores and restaurants. And it’s all just a stones throw from NYC. I invite you all to day trip!
The Red Thread is a symbol in many cultures of connection. Of warding off negativity. I used to read my kids a book called, The Invisible String, when I was trying to pry them off my leg to start Kindergarten. The idea is that we’re all connected by an invisible red string.
So, with this in mind, I hope The Red Thread is a great connector and community builder. Whether that’s the community between me and you, the community at large, or your own personal community. One where stitchers of all skill levels feel welcome and fulfilled. I hope to be a resource of fun and passion, of helping us to lead a colorful life.
I look forward to seeing you in Locust Valley!
